Dr. Dinorah Nieves is a multifaceted scholar-practitioner, educator, coach, and media consultant with over two decades of experience at the intersection of communication, behavioral science, and personal development. With a dynamic career spanning broadcast journalism, higher education, psychotherapy-informed coaching, and published scholarship, Dr. Nieves brings a holistic, culturally competent, and socially conscious lens to every space she enters.
Dr. Nieves began her media career doing on-air and production work for networks such as Court TV, ABC, and MTV. Her work has reached millions through emotionally resonant programming, including her long-standing role as a consultant on OWN’s Iyanla: Fix My Life, and more recently, as a featured expert on A&E’s Hoarders.
Simultaneously, Dr. Nieves cultivated a robust academic foundation. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology and an M.A. in Communication Studies, both from Fordham University, as well as an M.S. in Psychology from Capella University. She has also earned multiple certificates in wellness, coaching, and therapeutic modalities, including training from Duke University, Cornell University, and Harvard University. She is a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) accredited by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) and a passionate stress management and resilience consultant. Her interdisciplinary training allows her to integrate evidence-based practices into her teaching, coaching, and consulting work.
Dr. Nieves has served as an adjunct and assistant/associate professor at numerous institutions, including John Jay College, Pace University, CUNY, and currently at the Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design (RMCAD), where she specializes in social and behavioral sciences and communication. Her commitment to learner-centered pedagogy is reflected in her published scholarship on digital education and emotional intelligence in teaching.
As a writer, she has contributed to outlets such as The Huffington Post, PopSugar Latina, Blinkist, ShamanX, and Forbes, and authored the transformative "Love YOU" book series, aimed at empowering readers toward self-awareness and personal growth. Her academic and practitioner writing addresses themes such as Latina identity, bicultural resilience, digital pedagogy, and leadership coaching.
A certified wellness and life coach, Dr. Nieves has worked in nonprofit and social service settings, with organizations like the Joe Torre “Safe At Home” Foundation and the Mary J. Blige Center for Women and Girls. She continues to support personal and organizational transformation through keynote speaking, curriculum development, and consulting.
